Why is the CP Classic unique?

The CP Classic is for youth distance runners between the ages of eight (8) and eighteen (18) of all ability levels, but with a competitive mindset.  We specialize in the middle- and long- distance running events from 800 meters and longer, including the steeplechase.  We have a strong reputation, a history of success, and our focus is on the individual athlete.  Our athletes have claimed among their honors:  TAAF State Athlete of the Year, 29 national championship medals and competed in 83 national championship events.  We are proud of these accomplishments, but our main focus is always individual athletic development.

We participate in track & field and cross country competitions sanctioned through the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), the USA Track & Field (USATF), the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF), as well as non-sanctioned competitions.  We provide advanced and well-structured training regimes for experienced runners and teach proper basics and fundamentals to beginner runners.  We strive for a fun and focused environment based on long-term goals.  Youth distance runners have demands different from other youth athletes, even different from adult distance runners.  Training demands need to be carefully balanced with the physical and mental demands of developing athletes.  Most importantly, our training programs are developed and implemented by certified and experienced youth distance running coaches with a passion, knowledge, and experience for distance running developed over decades.

History
1996 - 1999:  In the fall of 1996, the CP Classic, then referred to as the 'Cedar Park Track Club', started informally to address the competitive desire by youth distance runners.  This period was focused on gaining experience and fun, and also found a high level of success in a budding program.
2000 - 2001:  In the spring of 2000, the CP Classic formalized as a club, opened up include field and sprint groups, and affiliated with the city's startup summer track & field program.  This period saw a continuation of success and popularity.
2001 - 2004:  In the fall of 2001, the CP Classic decided to separate from the city and function as an independent club.  The club name was officially changed to the 'CP Classic' to reflect the original vision of individualized athletic development.  This period brought about greater flexibility in training programs while providing the best training environment.
2004 and beyond:  In the spring of 2004, the CP Classic became a distance-specialty club, focusing solely on mid- and long- distance events.  This enables a focus solely on the demands of youth distance runners that no other local club can offer.  This period, which continues through today, also brought about the addition of summer base training programs for high school runners, in addition to the traditional youth track programs.

Cross Country Practices:  From September to December, practices are held Sunday mornings, Monday evenings, and Wednesday evenings at various area locations.  All practices are optional, but it is suggested to attend as many as possible.  Most practices are approximately 60 to 90 minutes in length.  New members can e-mail the coaching staff at: cpclassic@io.com to receive location information.

Accident and Liability Insurance
The CP Classic is a member club of the AAU, USATF, and the TAAF sanctioning organizations and in doing so all of our athletes, coaches, and club officers are provided with accidental and liability insurance beginning the date membership was paid and until the end of the membership year.  The AAU membership year ends August 31, the USATF membership year ends December 31, and the TAAF membership year ends at the conclusion of the Games of Texas State Championships.  Each are separate and are secondary accidental and liability insurance.  It is accident insurance, not health insurance – it won’t cover health examinations, or other non-accidental medical expenses not relate to CP Classic authorized activities.
