Day 2 -- Private coach takes us 4 hours to another jungle town of Moyobamba to another really neat hotel and thermal baths, and orchid displays.
Day 3--
Private coach takes us
4 hours to Chachapoyas past a waterfall twice as high as any building, and
ups though the spectacular Utcubamba Canyon. Reception, then 15 minutes
drive to an Inca mitima village beside a canyon deeper than the Grand
Canyon, with gigantic waterfalls cascading into it. Night at the fabulous
Colonial Mansion, 3 Star Hostel.
Day 4 - Bus 1 hour to Levanto, the most significant city of the Inca and colonial Spanish era. Ten minute walk up to explore the Yalape ruins, also the Inca Canal, and the restored Inca Military Garrison built to guard this major hub of Inca roads radiating out over 2000 miles from here. Stay night at our lodge built like the ancient style, but with modem conveniences as hot showers, flush toilets, and comfortable beds, etc.
Day 5 --
Coach 4 hours to Kuelap to see the largest structure of South
America. Inside its 4 or 5 levels of huge walls, are over 400 stone
buildings. We stay the night at the Choctamal Lodge (hot water), high in
the cloud forest looking down at the clouds.
Day 6 -- Coach to Chiclayo 9 hours and stay night in another fabulous hotel (***). On this trip you will have seen the world's most extreme conditions, the mightiest rainforest, the 2nd highest mountain range, and the driest desert. The most advanced culture left the richest gold tomb of the Americas, the Lord of Sipan. This is on the Pacific coast in an environment like Egypt, with hundreds of pyramids, and a rich desert soil irrigated by a river and huge canals taking water from mountains over 100 miles away.
Day 7 -- After seeing Pimentel (reed boats on the Pacific Coast) and the pyramid complex with continuing excavation of royal tombs including the Lord of Sipan, we catch our flight to Lima.
Optional Day 8 -- Another day could be spent in Chiclayo to see Tucume in the valley of pyramids, the Bruning Museum (with all the gold).
