The South Austin Culture Club Announces
The Billion Bubba March
Marching for the South Austin Way of life!
Saturday, October 14th, 2000 we’re organizin’ the Billion Bubba March and we’re marchin’ on the Broken Spoke!
John Kelso, famed columnist of the Austin American Statesman, has agreed to serve as the Supreme Bubba, Grand Master of the Bubba Parade. Other members of the Billion Bubba Board are James White, of the Broken Spoke, and Ken Kooch, owner of Green Pastures Restaurant. More board members to be announced soon!!
We’re marchin’ for beer, bats and burritos, and don’t forget those ballots. We’re marchin’ for a whole lot more folks to get out and vote than the wimpy 8-12 percent of couch potatoes in the past. We gotta do better than that to save South Austin s famous history and culture for those who live here and those who come to visit.
Why beer, bats, and burritos?!
Good question! Beer stands for good food, beverage, and the good life. Bats stand for preservation. Those little creatures need to be preserved! And so does South Austin! Burritos stand for diversity and inclusion. That wonderful little delicacy was invented by Hispanics and many others added their touch!
Neighborhood Shootout to Win the Biggest Voter Turnout!!!
There’s gonna be a real neighborhood shootout to see which neighborhood can raise their percentage of voter turnout in the November 2000 elections over the November 1996 elections. Jeff Jack, of the Zilker Neighborhood Association says that Zilker’s as good as won. Gary Hyatt, of the Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Association says there’s no way that's gonna happen. One thing’s for certain and that’s bets and reputations will be won or lost as all the neighborhoods challenge each other to see who can really win the get out and vote contest.
Don't have to go to Washington - the Broken Spoke is far enough! It’s pitiful to take that long of a trip and spend all that money. We can just say whatever we want at the Broken Spoke.Get Involved in The Billion Bubba March!!!
