Teaching Experience

 

Professor, Austin Community College, 2002-present.
    Teach a mixture of college credit and developmental courses, including classroom based instruction as well as an internet-based Elementary Algebra course. Oversee departmental computer technicians. As chair of Math Technology Committee, track faculty computer needs and provide computer and software advice to other faculty. Develop informational web pages for students and faculty and write computer labs for selected classes. Serve on departmental and college committees as needed. Advise students on placement and course selection as needed.

 

Assistant Taskforce Chair for Mathematics, Austin Community College, 2001-2002.
    Hired staff technicians and organized 6 computer classrooms (at 5 campuses) operated by the math department. Oversaw the deployment of several department servers. Developed database applications for Math department and academic Deans at college.

 

Associate Professor, Austin Community College, 1999-2002.

    Taught one course per semester for two semesters. Took over a class for an instructor who resigned during the semester.

    Taught individual flute lessons and recruited flute students.

Other Competencies
  • Languages: English (native), German (some reading knowledge, very basic spoken knowledge)
  • Some experience with database design and programming in Microsoft Access and web design – Hired for several smaller-scale consulting projects on database development, some with web components.
  • Experienced chamber musician – Actively perform on modern and period historical flutes, with an emphasis on eighteenth century performance practices. I play the standard “modern” Boehm flute, one-key classical and baroque flutes, and an 8-key nineteenth-century flute.
