About Problem Child

Problem Child is a literary zine, produced twice a year. Its subtitle is "a group home for unruly literature." What does that mean?

It's a place for stories that bend or blend genre, or are too much for traditional markets -- too political, too literary, too sexy -- or else not enough for others -- not sexy enough, not "speculative" enough.

Orphans with charm, in other words. You know, "great personality, but that face..." sorts of stories.

It it's a literary misfit with merit, then you just might find it in Problem Child.

About The Editor

Lori has edited or helped edit two volumes of erotic fiction, a magazine, and a website or two.

To be more specific:

She is the editor of Literotica and Tough Girls, and the co-editor of the sexual resource directory The Black Book, all published by Black Books. Tough Girls was nominated for a Lambda Literary Award in 2002.

She's also worked for On Our Backs Magazine, and she runs an erotic story site called Storymistress.

She's had fiction published in Dreams of Decadence, Black Sheets, Velvet Mafia, and a whole lot of anthologies including Best Lesbian Erotica 2002, Best Biseuxal Erotica 1 and 2, and Zaftig. Her story "A Boy's Night Out" was mentioned for the 1996 James Tiptree Jr. Award for speculative fiction that challenges traditional notions of gender. (It's on the "long list.")

However, she considers it mostly coincidence that her writing and editing experience is almost entirely involved with sex. (She also writes a music column for Girlfriends Magazine, and freelances here and there, writing about everything from hospital breastfeeding programs to travel gear for dykes.)

If you really want to learn more, check out her website, or read her LiveJournal. (P.S.: Lori's mother hates it when she talks about herself in the third person.)
