FrameMaker Practice & Quick-Refs:
Tables

This page is an effort to combined what was formerly two assignments—practice work and quick-ref work. The practice assignments ask you to show that you can apply what you've learned in the tutorials; the quick-refs ask you to write what is essentially a "cheat sheet" that will act as a reminder later on. The point of these activities is to immerse you a bit in FrameMaker so that it will seem more like second nature.

Combining these two things may be a bit awkward at times. In the table-title item below, you might write something like:

To omit the table title, place your cursor in the table with a title, open the Table Designer, click the down-pointing symbol under Title Position, and select No Title. (See the following example table.)

You're most welcome to get fancier with this text: the preceding example could include a numbered list and highlighting.

To get some practice with FrameMaker tables, do the following:

  1. Explain how to create a table without a table title; create such a table just following this explanation.
  2. Explain how to create a table with a first row that spans (straddles) all columns and that states the title of the table; create such a table just following this explanation.
  3. Explain how to create a table containing a column with right-aligned numbers that are in the center of the column (hint: set the right margin and the alignment in the Paragraph Designer); create such a table just following this explanation.
  4. Explain how to create a table heading row that uses bold for the column headings and gray for background color; create such a table just following this explanation.
  5. Explain how to save a customized table as a "table tag" (for example, as "Table C" or "Special table") so that you can use the customized table elsewhere. No need to create the table; just tell me the name of the table tag.
