at Fort Davis, standing at the foot of what is arguably the largest
cottonwood tree on the planet. This tree and five (?) other giants
stand around a spring which presumably decided the location of
the frontier fort, one in a chain originally designed to protect commerce
and travel between San Antonio and points west.
The Indian Lodge at Fort Davis State Park. This lodge was built by
the Civilian Conservation Corp, a depression-era jobs program, and still
contains the original axe-hewn funiture.
