The Preface of Epiphany

O God, heavenly Father, your Son Jesus
Christ enjoyed rest and refreshment in the home of Mary and Martha
of Bethany: Give us the will to love you, open our hearts to hear
you, and strengthen our hands to serve you in others for his sake;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now
and for ever. Amen.
Let love be genuine; hate what is evil,
hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection;
outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent
in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering,
persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend
hospitality to strangers.
Now as Jesus and his disciples went
on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named
Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary,
who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying.
But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him
and asked, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left
me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me."
But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried
and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away
from her."
