Austin Air Guitar Championships Only in Austin ...Watch or participate in the preliminary contest leading up to the regional championships that take place during SXSW here in Austin.

Carnaval celebrates keeping Austin weird!

March

Capitol 10,000

An event that puts thousands of runners on a footrace through the streets of Austin. It is known for the unique costumes that appear in the racing crowd.

Kite Festival at Zilker Park For more than 70 years, this rite of springtime has been celebrated yearly by Austinites who fill the skies with handmade kites. The kite festival draws up to 10,000 spectators annually to watch the contests and performances by professional stunt kite flyers.

SXSW Festival/Convention offers one of the best opportunities to learn about the future of the digital world, make contacts in the independent film world, meet with the alternative label world, and listen to the best music from around the world.

Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo The Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo kicks into Austin at the Travis County Exposition Center. The hoof-pounding event includes a livestock show, a carnival, "xtreme" bull riding and concerts, and will attract about 300,000 people

Austin Fine Arts Festival

Come see creativity in full bloom at the Austin Fine Arts Festival! The streets of Downtown Austin will be transformed into a colorful garden of creativity where art enthusiasts may explore the booths and shop the artwork of the nation's top visual artists and fine craftspeople. All participating artists are selected via a competitive jury process, so you can expect to find original, one-of-a-kind artwork in a variety of mediums and price ranges.

Austin Marley Festival

A weekend of music, food and fun celebrating Bob Marley's vision of peace, love, and unity for mankind, while groovin' to the sounds and beats of the some of the best local, regional, national and international reggae bands. Sample exotic Caribbean foods, shop vendors displaying a variety of third world crafts or bungee jump, climb a rock wall, and dance wildly amongst the drum circles. Kid friendly area available.

Old Settler's Music Festival

A nationally known music festival featuring the best in roots and Americana music. Held in Camp Ben McCulloch in Austin, Texas at the height of bluebonnet and wildflower season, there's great music and activities for the whole family.

Schlotzsky's 5 K Bun Run

Each spring, thousands of runners enjoy one of the best-organized road race events in Central Texas. The Young Men's Business League of Austin and Schlotzsky's Franchise LLC work together to organize and staff the event. The YMBL all-volunteer organization was founded in 1913 and exclusively supports the Austin Sunshine Camps.

Spamarama

Many things in this life achieve cult status, but not many are more deserving than the boiled, canned and processed flesh of the pig. Where else but Texas would thousands descend on the "The Perpetual Pandemonious Party of Pork" in celebration of the potted pig and its glorious incarnation, Spam.

Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival

The Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival brings together innovative culinary artisans and wine producers who celebrate the rich traditions that influence Texas wine and food. The Festival's purpose is to promote Texas wine and food and to increase appreciation of Texas' impact on food and wine throughout the world.

Old Pecan Street Arts Festival Each year vendors and entertainers play host to thousands of visitors when this weekend festival takes over Sixth Street. Once in the spring and again in the fall, almost 300 selected arts and crafts vendors from all of the United States display their work for sale. Booths full of food, handmade gifts, jewelry and more, pack the street from IH 35 to Congress Avenue. Live local music graces five stages and you will find a special kid's carnival with entertainment for children.

June

Hyde Park Historic Homes Tours Founded in 1891, Hyde Park is Austin's first planned residential suburb and remains an old-fashioned neighborhood. Victorian and early 20th-century homes are opened for a public tour annually.

Keep Austin Weird Fest - 5K Run Tours

The Keep Austin Weird Fest is Austin's celebration of all people, places and things that make Austin unique. This year's run is moving downtown with a Republic Square Park as the festival location.

Republic of Texas Bike Rally ROT is the biggest and best motorcycle event in Texas! Each year, some of the country’s hottest bike builders come to join the fun and chat it up with fellow riders.

July

Austin Symphony Fourth of July Concert 100,000 spectators will turn out Independence Day to watch the Austin Symphony perform on the Auditorium Shores outdoor stage. The two-hour free show concludes with a fireworks spectacular. 476-6064.

Fall Creek Vineyards Grape Stomp A tour of Fall Creek Vineyards along Lake Buchanan filled with festive activities and culminating in a barefoot grape stomp in huge wooden bins. There's also wine sampling. 476-4477.

September

Bat-Fest BatFest will feature Arts, Crafts, Music, Food, Bat Watching, Children's Activities, and Educational Displays. Estimated attendance is around 40,000!441.9015

Diez y Seis de Septiembre at Fiesta Gardens A six-day bash starting Sept. 16 featuring Mariachi bands, folk dances, pinatas and fine food. The event includes Conjunto, Tejano and country music, along with the Fiesta Patrias Queen pageant. 482-0175.

Old Pecan Street Arts & Crafts Festival The historic seven block thoroughfare is blockaded to make room for hundreds of booths of artists, crafts people and food vendors. As always, there's plenty of live music. 512-443-6179.

October

Fall Regatta on Lake Travis A nautical race with more than 80 keel boats sailing over Lake Travis. Watch from the comfort of the 35-acre Austin Yacht Club. 266-1336.

Halloween on Sixth Street The seven-block historic street is barricaded and 60,000 costume-wearing Halloween revelers fill Austin's best-known entertainment district. It's the Lone Star State's premier spot for All Hallows Eve. 478-0098.

November

Victorian Christmas on Sixth Street Austin's entertainment district takes on the look of 19th-century London as Thanksgiving weekend shoppers browse the booths filled with holiday crafts and gift items. 443-6179.

December

Zilker Park Tree Lighting and Trail of Lights Austin's best-loved holiday tradition, thousands come to see the decorated park and the lighting of the 165-foot Christmas tree. The trail of lights is a mile-long display of holiday figures and wintertime scenes. The tree lighting ceremony takes place on the first Sunday of December. Call - 512-974-6700
