IO Initiative to Design Next Generation, Green Data Center Technology

Phoenix, AZ - April 30, 2013

IO, the leading provider of Data Center 2.0 technology for the world’s largest enterprises, governments and service providers, today announced the company will host a team of graduate students from the MIT Sloan School of Management’s Sustainable Business Lab (S-Lab). Through their S-Lab projects, students apply knowledge from the classroom to solve real-world problems and see firsthand how businesses are tackling the massive challenges of sustainability.

The project will examine all materials included in IO.Anywhere® modular data center technology and deliver recommendations to improve product sustainability including increased use of recycled and environmentally friendly materials, and end of life recyclability and alternative uses.

“The MIT S-LAB project has given our team an amazing opportunity to gain deeper insight into the key sustainability considerations associated with data center technologies,” said Daniel Skempton, M.Eng Supply Chain Management 2013.

The project team involves a multi-disciplinary group of MIT graduate students with a diverse range of skills spanning material science, policy management, urban planning and supply chain management. The students will work directly with Patrick Flynn, IO’s Lead Sustainability Strategist and MIT Sloan MBA 2012, and Andreas Zoll, Vice President Engineering and Product Development, IO. The MIT S-Lab team will deliver its findings in late May 2013.

“This project brings together the brightest minds available to help partner organizations like IO take concrete actions to improve social, environmental and economic outcomes in the long term,” said Flynn.
