TIER III Design Certification

Tier Certification is a vendor-neutral, third party certification for system and operational sustainability delivered by the Uptime Institute Professional Services. The Uptime Institute Professional Services organization is the only firm licensed to rate and certify data center topology against the Uptime Institute’s Tier Classification System.

Tier Certification of Design Documents ensures the site infrastructure solutions, as represented in the design documents, are consistent with the Tier objective of the project.

Tier III is defined as redundant capacity components and multiple distribution paths serving the site’s dual powered computer equipment, allowing for concurrent maintainability. Each and every capacity component and element in the distribution path can be removed from service on a planned basis without impacting any of the computer equipment. This allows data center operators the ability to perform maintenance without taking the data center offline.

IO was awarded Tier III Certification for Design Documents for the first phase of IO Phoenix on October 15, 2010.

A major milestone for IO’s IO.Anywhere Modular Data Center product was the award of Tier III Certification for Design Documents for IO New Jersey’s Modular Data Center on March 19, 2012. This certification verifies the concurrent maintainability of the IO.A product and drastically simplifies future Tier III design Certifications which use IO.A building blocks.
