"The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Regiment, composed of the old 43rd and 52nd Light Infrantry, both with glorious histories, formed part of the famous Light Division in the Peninsular War, where the lightheartness of the men amid the hardships of this campaign gained for them the nickname of the "Light Bobs." The gorget plate was an ornament worn on the breast of officers in its early days."
