Horsa Gliders: Why march when you can ride?

British Made Assault Glider of the Second World War:
Horsa Mk. I

Utilized by the OBLI Glider Borne Infantry during Normandy, Rhine and Arnhem. The Horsa was constructed primarily of wood with a cloth wing covering. At Pegasus Bridge, the load consisted of Glider Infantry and supplies, yet the glider could also carry a modified jeep or a 6 pounder cannon. Later development of the Mk. II provided the glider with a hinged nose for increased speed and access to large loads. During the war, 3655 of these reliable aircraft were provided to the airborne troops by British manufacturers.
