ROLLING FOR POWERS VARIANT

by David Astley - 1998

In the past I've had big problems with the D6+2 powers, as I'm sure many
people have. D4+4 doesn'thelp that much and D4's don't have the same
satisfying clatter that D6's do. Well, here's a method I've come up with
that seems to work well and really fleshes out your 'random' characters.

For number of powers, roll D6+2.
If you roll a 6, randomly roll 8 powers and one weakness.
If you roll a 5, randomly roll 7 powers and CHOOSE one weakness.
If you roll a 4, randomly roll 5 powers and CHOOSE one. Random weakness.
If you roll a 3, randomly roll 4 powers. CHOOSE one power AND weakness.
If you roll a 2, randomly roll 2 powers. CHOOSE two powers AND a weakness.
If you roll a 1, CHOOSE all 3 powers and the weakness.

Players may not choose any heightened stat 'B' powers but that's the only
restriction I make. If they want to choose powers that give them more
powers (like animal/plant powers), they may but all dice rolls concerning
those powers are random and if they luck out, it serves them right.
Other GM's may want to place their own restrictions.

If anyone uses and/or alters this rule, I'd love to hear about it.
