Phone Call : Chephirah and Mazpatiel

Sarah S. answers the telephone on the fourth ring, last-moment rescue from the answering machine. "Schaeffer residence. May I help you?"

Pat says "Sarah?"

You say "Speaking."

Pat says "It's Patrick. There's business."

Sarah S. absorbs this, from the lack of a significant pause, with equanimity. "Would you like me to meet you somewhere, or are you asking for an errand run?"

Pat says "I need you to come downtown. One of David's asked to meet us at La Trattoria, at three."

Sarah S. says "Certainly. Three o'clock, La Trattoria."

Pat says "Thank you. I'm not sure what the purpose is."

Sarah S. says "We'll find out, in good time. Though I must admit it seems a touch unusual."

Pat says "Quite. The reservation is under Terence Mubin."

Sarah S. repeats the name back to him, as she did the rest. "Excellent."

Pat says "I'll see you then, Chephirah."

Sarah S. replies, "Almost certainly," and the receiver clicks as it is set down.

[[ Pat makes more calls. Sarah, in contrast, sits down with a map and a telephone book and works out how to get to the place. ]]
