More about BAKBAY Labrador Retrievers

Labrador Retrievers are a very important part of my life. My wife, Tresha, and I currently own 7, ranging in age from 4 months to over 12 years old. The picture above shows 4 generations of our dogs. From the left: Willie, 12+, Lulu, 10+, Luna (6+), and Abby (4 months). They live with us, along with 2 small, rescued non-Labs on 14 acres near Creedmoor, Texas, USA. Creedmoor is a small town located south-southeast of Austin, Texas.

All of our Labs compete in various AKC and UKC events, mostly involving retrieving work or agility.

Willie , is a black male, whelped 6-10-95. He qualified for the Master National three times before the age of 6, then Tresha started training him in agility where he earned his agility excellent standard and jumper titles. Now past the age of 12, Willie still gets to train for field work and hunt. In June of 2005, just before his 10th birthday, Willie earned his Hunting Retriever Championship. Shortly after his 11th birthday, he earned his Rally Novice obedience title. At 11 1/2, he passed 3 of 4 upland hunt tests he entered and at 12 1/2 passed three more to earn his Upland Hunter title.

Lulu , has her Master Hunter title but retired from competition after a near fatal rattlesnake bite, and
Yoda are littermates. Yoda was the runt of the litter who grew up into the biggest dog of the bunch. He has his Junior Hunter title and both standard and jumper excellent agility titles and trains mostly for tracking now.

Our three littermates Clint, Luna, and Riser, were born July 6, 2001. Clint has his HRCH (hunting retriever champion) title as well as his MH (master hunter) and UH (upland hunter), MX and MXJ (master agility excellent titles) and is currently working towards his MACH (agility championship). Luna also has her HRCH plus UH and her SH (senior hunter) as well as her NAJ (novice agility jumper). Riser is our wild child but loves to train, some in agility and tracking with Tresha and as much in the field with me as she can.

Our youngest is Abby, born September 21, 2007. Abby is a yellow female we kept from the breeding of Luna to CH MACH Prospect's Slam Dunk MH UD MXP3 MJP3.

Chance, Corky, Tarn, Pandora, Rascal, and Classy highlight my gallery of lab friends who have crossed over the rainbow bridge. Click on their individual pictures for more information about them.

We train regularly with members of the Alamo (San Antonio) Retriever Club, the Waterloo Amateur Retriever Club, and the staff and clients of Red Iron Kennels (Austin, TX). We occasionally participate in conformation or obedience events but spend the great majority of our time on field work, including both hunting tests and field trials, with agility now running a close second.

Please consider adopting a rescued Labrador. There are many reasons why Labs might become available for adoption and, unfortunately, there is usually a wide choice of sex, color, and ages of dogs available. For information about rescued Labradors available in the central Texas area, click here. For information about rescued Labs in other areas, click here.

Curly, Larry, and Moe (shown with Tresha) are three rescued dogs. Curly and Moe currently share space with our Labs.

Visit LABMED to learn about an Internet-based organization devoted to assisting rescued Labradors in need of medical attention.

Visit Wing-N-Wave Labradors for a wealth of links on canine health and genetics.

We are not in the business of breeding dogs, but we occasionally (about every 2 years) have puppies , which usually go to established competition homes. If you are interested in acquiring a Labrador Retriever, please start by reviewing information at the Labrador Retriever Club (LRC) website about things to look for in selecting a puppy . The LRC website also has a searchable directory of members who are breeders.
