Naturally, a Cavalier found in a shelter is likely to have at least one medical problem. Most Cavaliers are extremely allergic to flea bites, and additionally to harsh chemical dips. Many Cavaliers in shelters have very little hair due to this compounding of allergic reactions. Many are also allergic to corn meal, and removing food with a corn meal base from their diet will generally bring relief from severe itching. The average life span for Cavaliers is 10 to 12 years, however with proper care, some will live longer.
