Dry a section at a time and keeping the rest covered with a wet towel. I tried it over the weekend and if I do say so myself my dog never looked better. However it took me over 3 hours to get her dry. But that is the best success I have had in grooming her coat for a show.
A handy way to have your puppy learn to tell you when he/she needs to go out is hang a bell on the door knob to the outside door he/she is to use. When taking your puppy out tap the bell with his/her foot and say good boy/girl. Go outside and praise heavily when they go. Soon your puppy will learn to ring the bell when outside duties are required. Works for me and for the puppy people who I give these instructions to.
Take a good thick paper towel folded in quarters, (or a light days style pad), hold it over the dog's penis, and wrap vet wrap once or twice around his mid section to hold the padding in place. This works very well as often they won't pee after the first time they experience the results, and if they do, it is contained. No muss no fuss, the supplies are cheap and readily available, and it permits the boys to have more freedome than the might otherwise have......
The Oil treatment seems to work well for keeping the ears matt free and seems to grow the ears. Although, I''ve been warned that prolonged use will lead to hair breakage.

A vet gave the dog shark cartilage and the dog has now lived a year in remission. He knows that I have done alternative therapies on my dogs and that is when he shared it with me. He did say that it was very expensive and that you want to make sure your shark cartilage is of >the best quality. I give two of my dogs 1mg. of melatonin a night and it has cured them of seizures without any side affects. So I know that there are alternatives to regular medicine.

I have been using Asorbine Show Sheen (for horses) for 7 years now. It is a great anti static on my dogs coat also have sprayed it on my nylons so that my skirt does not creep up as you walk. I put show sheen on my dogs after a bath, great detangler which goes on working throughout the week so that combing your dog is easy. Can be sprayed on a dry dog and again makes comb out easy. Used this product when I had cockers and it was fantastic in helping maintain and grow lovely coat.

I now keep hydrogen proxide in the house at all times. My vet said that 1-2 teaspoons will cause a dog to throw up and get rid of all the chocolate in their systems.

Also keep on hand 3% food grade Hydrogen peroxide. If they get into anything toxic (digested) give 5cc per 10 lbs body weight and they will regurgitate immediatly that which had been eaten.

I was told years ago to put Borax (cheap 20 mule team you find in the soap section of grocery store) on the carpets and sweep it in, after you vaccum. You know what, it works! I think it is the same as some of the very expensive anti-flea treatments, but they use high-pressure to get it deep in the carpet. And it goes away when you shampoo the carpets.

To resolve the problem you have to keep the fleas off the dog. The best solution I have found is 1/2 cup Apple Cider Vinegar in a 3 Gallon pail of water. (Horse people use Apple Cider Vinegar constantly when showing horses). Or, use 1 tsp. Apple Cider in their food. My guys love it and it REPELLS the fleas.

For fleas, try Frontline. It comes in two forms; a spray, and a liquid that goes on like Advantage. I used the spray last summer and LOVED it. I'm switching to the liquid that goes between the shoulder blades this year. It stays on even through bathing and rain, swimming etc, and the flea DOES NOT have to bite the dog for it to work. The spray is cheaper if you have a lot of animals. The liquid, easier.

On the subject of diapers and bitches tearing them up: I have found two solutions to the problem of bitches in heat and how to still allow them free access to the sofa and bed. :-) A home made remedy is to buy a couple of pairs of childs cotton underpants and cut a hole in the back near the stretchy waisband about the size of a quarter. (this is a hole for the tail to slip thru). Take a panty liner and put in the area of the crotch and slip your bitches legs and tail thru the holes. You can change the panty liner and wash the underpants and it has worked great for me. Hope the explanation makes sense. Also, at most dog supply stores you can by a small black vinyl "belt" that you put a disposable doggie liner in. It criss crosses across the bitches back end and is pretty secure.

I keep Chlor-tripolon, 4mg, in my tack box at all times. It's the human kind but works well on the dogs.

She was stung in the throat, by who know what. She began crouching in the corner, throat and head well extended and whining. I took her immediately to the vets and he gave her a shot which helped her each time. Yes the benedryl is good to have on hand in liquid form. I have all childrens or baby's medications on hand at all times for them.

Note: Because dogs can have allergic reactions to stings, it is always best to visit a vet immediately when your dog has been stung.
I wanted to share some products I have found to help cover the fact that they shed. One is the dust-attracting broom. It is light weight, works on carpets as well as floors. The other a sponge called the pet hair lifter. Works on furniture, both hard and upholstery. I have seen them other places but ordered mine from "Improvements" catalog. Phone: 1-800-757-9997. Broom is #134072. Sponge is #134775.

I give all my kids 500mg Vit C per day, starting at 4 months old. They also get 400IU Vit E per day. These vitamins help in numerous ways; skin, coat, strenghtening the immune system.
