Orange
Poppies
23" x 19", 1998
$300
Made for the Quilts in Bloom invitational traveling exhibit, initiated
by Diana Leone. I have always admired the work of Georgia O'Keefe
and am particularly fond of her "Red Poppy". I saw this invitation
as an opportunity to portray my interpretation of poppies - in orange
- one of my favorite colors. Hand dyed cottons, reverse machine
appliqued and quilted. Cotton batt. |
xxxooo

$400
An invited
quilt for Rachel Rogel's Kiss Series. Cotton fabric with glow in
the dark lips, embellished with trapunto, sequins, beads, machine
embroidery, silk screen, fringe, and glitter. |

Big
Blue Colander -
Beaded - At Dawn, 1998
$600
Made for the Colander Girls invitational. This piece is in honor
of Ruth Reynolds, who was the inspiration. My interpretation of
the invitation to make a quilt that contained a colander is a big
blue one, like the Big Blue Marble -- Earth. I had received a beaded
colander as a gift, so I beaded this one, then put it rising in
an orange sky at dawn (Ruth's inspiration was an orange colander).
There are three constellations in the sky: Taurus - mine, Libra
- my husband's, and Orion's Belt, in memory of a friend. Commercial
cottons, painted, "poked", sheer overlay, machine quilted, beaded.
Cotton batt, cotton lining. |
