Legends of an Old Wall I
38" x 46", 1997 - $2500
Legends I speaks to the way we communicate, the marks we make, the legends we pass on. The quilt surface is made to appear like an old wall upon which lies layer upon layer of sign, symbol, inscription; some faded, peeling or painted over by time and the next generation striving to leave its imprint, its message. The image recalls the nostalgia of the legacy left by our predecessors, a document to their significance; a plea for remembrance, commemoration, memorial. Cotton cloth, hand-dyed, painted, silk-screened, machine embroidered and quilted, embellished with hand-made paper and gold polish, machine quilted.
