THE SPIRIT DANCERS SERIES
|
The
Spirit Dancers are a series of four quilted pieces that continue
the representation of female imagery and the use of narrative
and surface embellishment that I have applied in previous work,
along with the newer surface techniques of hand-dyeing, silk-screening,
painting, discharging, stamping and foiling.
The figures
are from cave drawings in Spain and are thought to represent a
dance of life. To me, these images celebrate the joyous feelings
we have in our friendships and love relations, without which life,
while possible, is without meaning. The settings are the four
elements -- earth, air, fire, and water -- the physical elements
essential for survival.
