I really enjoyed the Dragonriders of Pern series, though I found that my enjoyment has declined somewhat over the years. I'm not sure if it's me or her, but I suspect that the later books are not quite as good as the earlier. All are quite good, though. I found the characters engaging and the story generally interesting. I happen to like the idea of giant telepathic teleporting dragons and always wanted to be a Dragonrider.
I've noticed lately that Anne McCaffrey's books are getting more and more similar to each other. She tends to write about families of powerful psionics who are generally benevolent and don't fit in. Her characters are generally quite capable and often female. It's as though her fantasies are creeping into her books more and more until they are essentially pure Anne McCaffrey's fantasy. I noticed a similar trend in Heinlein's stories as he got older, though his decline was more severe.
I still recommend her books, though more her older ones than her new ones. The Rowan books were a bit on the bland side.
