This book details the events surrounding an orbital habitat constructed to be a haven for a group of very wealthy men to ride out the coming chaos on Earth. Unfortunately for them, those who have been chose to run the place for them are more interested in saving Earth than saving a group of wealthy men.

Mars

This is an excellent book which gives the account of a manned mission to Mars. This mission is quite realistic even in today's world, though sadly, unlikely to happen any time soon. The book describes the politics, personal interactions, and science in enough detail to be interesting, but not so much that it's boring. Anyone interested in space travel or the near-future exploration of planets in our solar system should read this book.

Moonrise and Moonwar

These two books detail the beginning of an independent Lunar state from the beginnings of the moonbase through it's declaration of independence. They are a good read, though they seemed to be aimed at a young adult crowd. The focus is more on the politics and the people than the technology.

Twice Seven

Fourteen short stories by Ben Bova. Read them. They mostly deal with near future exploration of the solar system.
