These stories detail the adventures of the relatively one-dimensional Earl Dumarest as he travels through space looking for his lost homeworld, Earth. Earl has lightning fast reflexes and a powerful instinct for survival. He's not a bad man, but he his a hard man. He is driven by his need to find the home he left as a young runaway. The stories are short and self-contained, though threads run through the series, such as his conflict with the Cyclan, humans who have given up all emotion and who seek to rule the galaxy to bring perfect order and peace. After reading two of these books, I went to a local used book store and bought every one I could find, which was about fifteen. I'm reading my way through them.
