I liked this series, though I enjoyed them less as time went on. I really liked the character of Krispos in the first two novels, not as much in the third. The first book details the struggles of Krispos as he rises from the son of a peasant farmer to a member of the Imperial court. The second book details his rise to Emperor. Both books are full of action and intrigue. The last book, though, was a bit of a disappointment for me. It takes up the story of Krispos later in his life, after his wife had died and he has a son who he must raise to be Emperor one day.
