Restaurants

Here are some places I like to eat:

Asian

Vietnam Restaurant
3215 Main Street
Houston, TX 77002
(713) 526-0917
This is one of our favorite restaurants. We love the food, especially the generous spring rolls (cold vermicelli wrapped in rice paper with shrimp).
Fu Kim
2615 Fannin Street
Houston, Texas 77002
(713) 655-9903
Fu Kim is one of the Dim Sum places my wife and I patronize. It's never very crowded but the food is pretty good. It's sometimes hard to find what you want, but if you ask, they'll bring it out.
Golden Palace
8520 Bellaire Boulevard
Houston, Texas 77036
(713) 776-8808
This Dim Sum place is at Gessner and Bellaire.
Kim Son
2001 Jefferson Street
Houston, Texas 77003
(713)222-2461
Kim Son is a Chinese and Vietnamese restaurant with an incredibly diverse menu. The main problem I have with eating there is figuring out what to order. They have good spring rolls (the cold ones with shrimp and vermicelli) and Vietnamese eggrolls (the little fried ones). Their entrees are all very good. The prices are a bit high, ranging around $8-$10/plate, but the portions are very generous. They have several locations in Houston, but the above downtown location is the one I usually go to.
Treasure Island
9600 Bellaire Boulevard
Houston, Texas 77036
This Dim Sum restaurant is in Dynasty Mall on the second floor. It's busy but the food is excellent. They have a wide variety of dishes including some of the more exotic dishes.
Lucky Dragon III
10600 Bellaire Blvd
Houston, TX 77072
(281) 933-8355
This used to be My-Canh but changed names recently. The food is very good and the carts come around fairly often. We went around noon on Sunday and were able to get a table immediately.

Italian

Buca di Beppo
5192 Buffalo Speedway
(713) 665-BUCA
Buca di Beppo is a good Italian restaurant with a good selection of foods that I can eat (no cheese). They serve the food family style, so the dishes are larger and you don't need one per person. The prices are typical of a nice Italian restaurant which means you get more for you money. The Calamari are excellent. The linguini frutti di mare was very good with plenty of bivalves (though I avoided them, preferring the, again, excellent calamari), though it didn't have any shrimp. The greens and beans were pretty good for a vegetable. The chicken marsala was good, though a little strange. It had huge mushrooms and tender chicken breasts but it reminded me of Chinese food and stuck out as a little odd to my taste. The service was excellent, friendly, and helpful.

Seafood

Pappadeaux
Pappadeaux is a very good cajun seafood restaurant. They have locations in several cities, though most are in Texas. The food is not very authentically cajun, but it's good and the portions are large enough to easily make two meals. There are a number of other Pappa's restaurants that are all generally very good.
Willie G's
Willie G's is one of my favorite seafood restaurants and my wife's favorite seafood restaurant. It's a little pricey, but good and the portions are large.

Tex-Mex

Houston is full of excellent Tex-Mex restaurants. Tex-Mex isn't the same as Mexican, though it has a lot of the elements of Mexican food.

No restaurants, yet.

Fast Food

Chik-Fil-A
I absolutely love Chik-Fil-A sandwiches. The only problems is that most of the ones around here are in malls and closed on Sundays.
Popeye's
Popeye's is my favorite chicken restaurant for their spicy chicken and cajun rice.
Taco Bell
While I don't really consider Taco Bell to be Tex-Mex, it's got a niche. When I crave a Taco Bell taco, nothing else will satisfy. Of course, there's something odd about Supreme Tacos just being regular Tacos with sour cream.
