Travel

I have travelled over a fair amount of the United States and a little bit of the Europe. The goal of this section of my web site is to share some of my travels and hopefully offer some useful advice based my own experiences.

United States

Most of my travels have been inside the United States. I've been to California, Florida, and New York City, and many places in between. When I was a child, my family would drive to Phoenix every summer to visit my grandparents. When I was courting Candice, I took many trips to Virginia and will take many more now that we are married.

Texas

Texas is a huge state and I've been all over it. It's my home state and so, of course, my favorite. I've been to Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Central Texas, east to Louisiana, and up across to New Mexico as well as west to El Paso.

Louisiana

Louisiana is just to the east of Texas. Cameron has several facilities located there, so I've spent some time in Morgan City and Berwick, Louisiana. I've also driven right through it as I-10 cuts straight across the bottom, through Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Virginia

Virginia is now my other favorite state. It's much more beautiful than Texas, as a general rule, and is where I was married. I've been to Roanoke, Richmond, Ashland, Lexington, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'm sure I've been other places, as well, and will see more of it as we visit my wife's home state.

Europe

France

Since my company graciously flew me to Europe, I took the opportunity to fly to Paris. Wow. Paris was just as amazing as everyone says and the Parisiens were very polite and helpful. My French came back to me enough to really help me get around, though no one was fooled into thinking I was a native.

Germany

My most recent trip was a business trip to Germany. I was there for two months and had my own car, so I took the opportunity to travel around on the weekends. I stayed in Ahnsbeck, a small town outside of Celle, the city where my work was. I made a number of trips to Hannover, about an hour south of Celle, including a trip to CeBit.

Berlin

While in Germany, I made two day trips to Berlin. I wish I'd had more time, but I did see some interesting stuff while I was there. I happened to be there on May 1st and found myself in the middle of the Nazis and the Communists. I left before anything exciting happened.

Asia

South Korea

I spent a week in South Korea on business. I stayed in Ulsan, which is in the Southeast and is the location of the Hyundai shipyards. While my trip was short, I did get a brief chance to see Seoul and I would like to return to either South Korea or elsewhere in Asia to experience more.

Seoul

Seoul is huge and when I was there, it was under massive construction and renovation for the 2000 World Cup. It was an interesting mix of new and old.
