How City
Transportation Depts
"hide" TC planning from the public.
The Austin Texas Public Works and Transportation Dept did not
properly inform ALL Bouldin Creek neighborhood residents of the TC
workshops that were being held.
No US postal mail notices were
sent out about the workshops, to all residents,no notices in the
citys' only newspaper about the workshops.
The PWT broke the basic
rule that you inform everyone of what is going on and get
everyone involved in the TC planning process...that did not happen in
the Bouldin Creek neighborhood. What the PWT chose to do was allow the
information about the Bouldin Creek TC workshops to be placed in the
Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Association newsletters...which alleagedly are
placed on every residents doorstep.
Here is the real, contrived,
unfairness of the Bouldin Creek Traffic Calming Pilot Project by the PWT
dept. of the city of Austin. Even if you got that newsletter...and were
not Mexican American and could read the english only version, if you are
not a member of the BCNA why would you read the newsletter. Why would
anyone expect to recieve an offical notice from the City of Austin in a
neighborhood association newsletter? This is a notice which would
change our neighborhood streets drastically and forever, and it was never
sent. This
same unfair, sneeky tactic was used in another out of state TC project
located here at this url. Scroll down that webpage until you see the
heading marked,
"What we stand for: A MORE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS:"
The
only US mail notice all Bouldin Creek residents recieved were to inform
all 2000 residents that the TC workshops were over...all plans were
final...the BCNA membership controlled the workshop planning...and you had
two weeks to vote yes or no on the plans that had been decided for you.
Two weeks...just two weeks, you could have been on vacation and never have
known what was going on.
