We've had lots of folks ask us, "Where you been?" over the past couple of years. A good question with a complicated (and not all that interesting) answer. We had an awful fine time publishing DEEP WATER magazine way back when in the 1990s, and we met some wonderful peoples along the way. But then all this other stuff (like, y'know, life) just kept sticking its nose in and mucking up our fun. Basically, it sorta came down to the value of letting a field lie fallow for a few seasons, so as to condition the soil for new crops.
And that's where we're at right now, planting, or at least turning the soil. We're trying out some new angles, and reworking some of the old ones. We're still totally committed to the whole DW philosophy of utilizing appropriate technology to create things that fit our natures (and also to maintinaing our tradition of punctuating that process w/the usual breaks for whiskey and philosophy), but we're sending out some new tendrils too. So see below for more info, and as they say watch this space!

In addition to words we're also keen on sounds, so starting Summer 2005 we'll be periodically releasing into the wild some limited CD-R editions, starting with: THE CLEAR SPOTS - mountain rock Ten tracks spread across an hour of born-in-a-barn-falling-down psychedelic noise rock, rural electrification project improvisations, and deep-woods sasquatch rituals, lovingly recorded using tin cans and twine. As raw and ragged as you'd hope, you can smell that Appalachian soil in every blown speaker.
We'll be expanding the concept further in the relatively near future with additional stuffs that fit the DW aesthetic (whatever that is). For more information, or to inquire about ordering, email KM and he'll give you the lowdown. |
Deep Water magazine never really went away, at least not for us. But admittedly it did become lot harder to find if you didn't happen to actually be us. We're still holding to the idea of using this here Web thing as a publishing tool, and out of respect for our friends the trees we won't be going back to a paper 'zine. (If yer into objects, check out the column to the left; we're shifting hard-copy production to the field of sound.) So over the next few months we hope to (finally!) introduce some new content to the site scribe-wise, continuing the DW tradition of spilling convoluted verbiage on topics we mostly care about. We'll also be keeping the magazine archives up and running, and maybe punching 'em up a bit as well. You can still check out the archives. (Please note that the archives are also in transition, so all info there may not be 100% current. Just so's you know.) |
