We have found out so far that Joe's father's name was Joseph Anthony Havas. We are now going to find his death certificate to see where he was from and who the next of kin was. This will help us track down more information.
If you have any information about Havas' in the world please e-mail me

How very exciting! Several months ago, I pulled a list of the Havas' on AOL,
then let it sit. Glad someone has some initiative.
Some questions: Is Joe of Hungarian descent? If so, where was his family
from? How old is he?
I live in Salem, Oregon; was born and raised in Oakland, California; am 55,
divorced and have four grown children. My parents are from what now is
Transylvania - Satu Mare and Zillah. They emigrated to the US through Cuba in
the late 20s. My father was with Kaiser Engineers until his death in 1962.
I have lived in Oregon since 1979 and have done many things from raising
sheep to working with the state legislature, the Oregon Symphony, State Farm
Insurance. Currently I am pursuing my dream to write.
I would love to hear more from you and to know if, in your holiday
communications, you found any other Hungarian Havases.

Hello, how are you? It is an interesting surprise to
see another Havas. I can't say I've ever run into one
before.
I am from the Detroit area (Troy to be exact). I'm a CS
student, as you know, and I am going to ASU this summer
where I will be going to school for a masters. My Father
(Richard Havas) is a veterinarian in Troy. He is from
Midland, MI where his father worked as a chemical engineer
for Dow Chemical.
That is about as far back as I can go with the name.
My parents don't really talk much about the past. Come
to think of it, I have never heard my dad talk about his
grandfather, or where he came from or anything. He doesn't
seem to know anything. My grandfather died when I was very
young so I never got a chance to talk to him. Perhaps it is
the same situation with my father. Even my grandmother
was never able to tell me about my past before she
died.
Anyway, I asked my father what he knew and all he said
was this. "Someone told me it means snow in Hungary, and
it is a common name out there" I think it may have been a
client that came in one day and told him that.
I have some family out in L.A. and San Diego, but as far
as I know, my brother(25yr old) and I are the only ones
left in the family with the name. My dad's brother
went over to Germany when he was young and we haven't
seen or heard from him again.
All I can say for sure is that some Havas came over from
Europe some time ago, and here I am.

Dear Havas family,
I do not think that we are relatives, but who knows!
Havas is a Hungarian word. It means "covered by snow". Has this word
a meaning in an other language? I would like to know. I am
a philosopher. Are you also or from where have you received
my E-mail address?
Please, write me. Katalin.
