The Captain
Once I stood on a jetty
staring out at a vast body of water. It looked so endless, intimidating
and unhappy. Just then, I caught a glimpse of a shrimp boat passing
through the jetties. I waived at the crew and wished them luck. They
couldn't hear me but they waved back.
I watched the waves pound the rocks over and over again and felt so
insignificant. I thought about the irony of life. How it pounds away
at you --- relentless and unforgiving --- just like the waves.
I thought about the captain of that boat. The responsibility of delivering
crew and vessel home safely. The strength, intelligence, and courage it
would take to navigate such treacherous water. I wondered "Why would
anyone choose such a profession?
I looked at the captain --- my dad --- and noticed a smile. Then I knew
the answer to all my questions.
And I was proud.

A Captain's Dream
You've sailed the seas many times
Your boats been tossed about.
The waves of life sometimes splashed high
Still you endured it all.
You've seen the breaking of the dawn
And the sun as it went down.
You've mastered the day, each thing that came your way
Still managing to keep your boat in order.
You've held the boat on the course
With nothing wavering you.
You've manned the rigs, sewed the nets
And held the wheel straight too.
But a Captains Dream you must cling
Onto this course you must take.
With your boat in order, hold on tight
To the wheel as your boat sails.
Because, your a true Captain and worthy to be praised.
You see, Jesus is the master, the pilot of your boat
But He put you in charge
To be the Captain of your boat.
So when the sailing gets rough,
Do as a true Captain does
Put your boat on course, man the wheel
And Pray, Pray, Pray..
