THE BILL CLINTON JOKE-OF-THE-DAY ARCHIVE

April 21, 1997:

Many Congressional Democrats were disappointed that Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich decided to take out a loan to pay off his $300,000 repayment rather than dip into his re-election campaign funds or start a legal defense fund. None was more disappointed than President Bill Clinton, himself, who wanted to use his own funds to pay off Janet Reno.

As one Washington insider noted, "Well, Newt's on the Dole, but Clinton's off to Reno."
