At a recent press conference:
Reporter: Mr. President, several eyewitnesses have reported that yesterday, when out for a morning walk, you crossed the street against the light, holding up traffic. Aren't you afraid that you're sending the wrong message to the children of this country?
President Clinton: That's a good question to ask, but let me tell you this. There's a better question. Forget about jaywalking, everybody does it. Even Republicans. Why just this morning, I saw Newt and Trent huffing and puffing as they hustled across the street as the light blinked "Don't Walk" while busy motorists were revving their engines, ready to go.
I say to you that it isn't jaywalking that's the problem. What this country needs -- and needs now -- is complete Traffic Light Reform.
