FPG released three expansions to Guardians: Daggle Isle, Drifters Nexus and Necropolis Park, in that order. I first discovered the game after Necropolis Park came out, but I quickly caught up and wanted more. I discovered that a fourth expansion had been planned (and for all I knew at the time, maybe it was ready to print -- it was nowhere near that far along).
That expansion set would have been The Seven Seas. A recent interview with Dave Gentzler suggests that I might have been the source of the name, but I don't think I was around when the title first popped up. (Believe me, I would be happy to take credit for it.)
Fast forward to the year 2003. Guardians is still popular. Furthermore, cards are being printed in Hungary for the first time. And some fans in France, among them Jean-Claude Pruent Jean-Claude, Thierry Moteau, Philbarfly and Cath, took it upon themselves to revive The Seven Seas as a fan-based expansion set, complete with artwork "borrowed" from artists whose work appears on the net. (All artwork is credited and no claims to copyright are made.)
Some of the originally planned cards have been realized. In addition, new cards have been created by the fans. Allow me to toot my own horn to say that some 30+ cards that originated as .sigcards to my Guardians Mailing List and Usenet messages. Also included are my Events cards (link coming soon).
Luke Peterschmit (one of the game's creators) said: "I just checked over your set - it is amazing! There is so much work here that is just right on the money (I especially dig Elwood O'Lantern!). I'm going to make a point to spread the word - there is just too much good work here to be ignored!"
UPDATE:I am sorry to report that there has been some kind of split among those that were working on the project. There have been disagreements. At this point, philbarfly, Thierry and Cath are working on one set of Seven Seas cards. You can Check out the work done so far at Phil, the Bar Fly's website. Or you can go directly to the English version of the Seven Seas page (in English).
On the other hand, J. C. Prunet has sent me a CD filled with images (in .JPEG format, not Photoshop) that I can load onto this site -- and hopefully will, a few at a time. There are different cards in the two sets, with some overlap. There may also be different versions of cards as they are playtested.
There are some cards that I like a lot. Some that I think are brilliant and that I wish I had thought of. And there are a few that I don't like or that I think are too unbalancing to the game. (Hopefully, these will be changed or cut as people print and playtest them.)
Whichever version you find, enjoy the cards. It would be great if these
cards could be made for real, but it isn't likely to happen unless one of
you hit the lottery and has a lot of money to spare. In any case, enjoy
them.
