Subject: [GUARDIANS] Strategy

Got my first real change to play Guardians last night and I noticed one real overwhelming style of play in the local group -- off color bonus.
Everyone was playing with numerous creatures in their shields with the strategy of mopping up with secondary attackers. This often lead to 40+ vitality of offense. Everyone had Idiots and Slippy Slimes, too. Add this to Wood Nymphs and Hair-de-Hobbins and some of those #$%@ shields has 50+ vitality defending on Woods. More than once I lost an entire 30pt shield without inflicting a single causualty (okay, I'm a novice, but I'm not that clueless).
How does one deal with this? I don't want to resort to playing the same sort of deck.
The group also heavily favored channellers and non-bribable creatures, but those I can deal with.

AOE via. Dark Cloud(uncommon), Dragon wing Lord( rare1), Sorceror(?),
Wailing Specter(uncommon), iron/rock Lords(uncommon) or Annoying Gnat of
the hood(common). This will remove all of there idiots, slimes,
- vitality guys. Also try using Mist veilers, or other no secondary
attacks vs. there little creatures. CAptain Hannibal Hawks also works
aganist little creature decks. Energy Leech or Energy Eater both work
very well againist channelers(They cannot just channel three times to
counter the spell).
Also off-color bonus only apply from the LAST secondary attacker
againist each creature. Say you have a 17 vitality external creature
(Eternal Witch lord) who just beat up a Devil hedgehog(4 vitality
elematental 2 OFC). Then after the rest of primary matchups your
oppenent attacks the witch lord with a sleeping spirt( 5 vitality 1 OFC
vs.black)and another Devil hedgehog. The off color bonus of the first
two creature Devil(A) and Sleeping Spirit would go away leaving the
witchlord alive and happy.

Lots of ways. Add some Overlords to your deck to change the Terrain type
you're fighting on. From what you've said here, a Vitale's Dark Cloud or
similar AOE will hurt your opponent pretty badly. Also, there are enough
"no seconday attackers" Creatures floating around now to build a really
horrid deck that shuts down secondary attackers, resulting in lots of
useless enemy Creatures. These are just a couple off-the-top-of-my-head
tips. I'm sure the regulars will offer up advice that's a little more
detailed.

The Overlords are a good idea -- I'll try a few out.
Which creatures are the "no secondary attackers" that are easy to find
(common or uncommon). I have one that I know of, Vesuvius Rex which did
cause some problems, but was quickly double-attacked to death.
As for the Dark Cloud -- too many Dispels to be reliable :(

Curse of the Betrayed is the ultimate assurence. Although not many people
like using it.

Where to begin? So many different ways to deal with this problem.
Hammer of Doom to get rid of their terrain. Overlords to change the
terrain. AOE's to wipe out his small creatures. Use creatures that
can't be attacked by secondary attackers...Mist Veiler, Roving Force
Inferno, Dust Geyser.
Wipe him out with a barnyard animal deck. You come at him with a bunch
of pigs, horses, mules goats, and farmer brown. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, just
keep blowing up his creatures right down the line. Or use Mayor McEvil
to get that AOE Methane attack going.
If you're worried about your opponent using spells simply use THE MOST
POWERFUL guardian in the game...Sikura. No more spells..period, as long
as you have some cards to keep your power stone supply up.
Subject: Re: [GUARDIANS] Strategy
UM, No. Sikura is a good Guardian but not worthy of the "The Most
Powerful," based on vitalty Rak Nam is, based on ability Finn and Tookle
are better in the right deck. I will acknowledge that Sikura is better
then the dreaded guardian P'tal.
Subject: Re: [GUARDIANS] Strategy
I feel an interesting discussion coming on. :)
Rak Nam may have high
vitality, but who cares? The new accessory can add 3 to a guardians
vitality (making most of them sit right around 30), and with Corruption
Stream and St. Ballantines, even Rak Nam is reduced to a mere mortal as
far as killing a Guardian goes. I agree that Finn and Tookle have nice
abilities in being able to draw those extra cards...but Finn can only do
this if he is controlling swamps, and Tookle almost has to be used with
a small creature deck, so use alot of AOE's against it. With Sikura,
you can almost completely eliminate spells in the game for your
opponent, but you still get to cast them, as long as you keep your power
stone supply up. That means no Dispell Magic for my opponent (I can
play any magic item or spell I want and KNOW that it's going to work).
I'm not saying that Sikura can't be beat, you just can't put alot of
spells in your deck; I'm just saying his ability is VERY powerful, and
IMHO the best guardian in the game overall. Any other thoughts on this

In our group of three players Gaar is still viewed as the best Guardian.
The funny thing is that whenever someone uses Gaar there always is a
Siin
in play as well, so his power is mostly under control.
Btw, in the german cardlist is written that Gaar needs to spend 2 power
stones to channel. Is this correct as well in the original version?
That would make Gaar a lot weaker.
Regards, Bjorn.
Subject: Re: [GUARDIANS] Strategy
Bjorn,
Yes, Gaar needs to spend two power stones to channel, which does limit
his power quite a bit. And he only channels 5 if I remember correctly.
Though he can still be used to really annoy your opponent.

Gaar's gotta spend 2 stones to channel to a non-channling reciever,
but only 1 to channel to a normal channeling reciever. I too have
noticed the paradox of Gaar and Siin. 'Tis a conspiracy, no doubt.
