The Cool Lacy Scarf for Just Beyond Beginning Knitters see use of text at bottom

This pattern makes a big open lattice looking stitch that leans sideways and makes the scarf look like it has a point on it at the top and bottom.
Tricks you will have to know: You need:
  1. A yarn that you like, either bulky or knitting worsted. You want about 100 yards of bulky yarn or 150 yards or more of knitting worsted.
  2. Big needles - size 8 or 9 for knitting worsted and size 13 or bigger for bulky yarn.
(Now you could try the really cool fuzzy yarns and stuff like that. They are harder to knit than regular yarn because you might get your needle tips caught in the yarn and split the yarn into thin pieces which will break easily, so watch out for that. If you do split the stitch take that one stitch out and do it over.)
  3. Ring markers that are big enough for the needles or make some markers with yarn by tying a piece into a loop with a regular knot.
Start the scarf:
Cast on 17 stitches for knitting worsted weight.
Cast on 9 stitches for bulky weight.

Here is the pattern. It is two rows long.
Row 1. Knit two, *yarn over, knit two together.* Repeat from * to * to the next to last stitch. Knit the last stitch.
Row 2. Knit two, purl all but the last two. Knit those two.
Keep going until the scarf is long enough or you think you will run out of yarn soon. Stop the pattern when you have finished a row 2, and then bind off on the next row.

Decorating fun
You can decorate the scarf with interesting stuff. You can change colors if you want to. Just knit the old yarn and the new yarn together in the same stitches for about 3 to 5 stitches. You can sew buttons on it, or beads, or sequins. You can put fringe on the two ends.
