Definition Seeks Word

******* n. 1. an imbalance of power that perpetuates itself; “A legislature should not draw it’s own maps, that just creates a *******”; “I had to close the shop after Walmart came to town, but that’s ******* for you.”

Am I just spacing on this? There’s gotta be a word for that.

I'm hoping this wasn't a rhetorical question because, after a long night of scholarly studies, I am in the mood for a quick exegetical analysis before bed ;-)

"An imbalance of power that perpetuates itself" could be used to describe a number of different types of ostensible authorities such as tyrannical rule or despotism, fascism, totalitarianism, an autocracy or oligarchy, etc. Any time that a small number of people exercise absolute authority over a substantially larger number of people, there is an imbalance of power, and almost all powers seek to maintain their authority.

Personally, I think the redistricting issue was fascism at its best -- it seemed like republicans correctly assumed that most citizens would be too confused and overwhelmed by the issue at hand to argue it, or agree with it for that matter, and they took advantage by rushing the legislation and then labeling the dems as whiny reactionaries before the populus could adequately understand what was at stake.

I'd fill in the blank of the Wal-Mart example with "free-market capitalism."

Oh, and you might have HTML tags turned off under the prefs section of MT. Hm. I wonder if I can use MT tags? Italicize this.

I guess not.

I think I was expecting something from the Hopi language, like, "Gimmeqatsi."

Oh. Of course. That's the word I always use.

Hm. What about "azungalira?" That's bastard Swahili for "white people that go round and round in circles."

Well, there's "gerrymandering", which I guess is just the specific redistricting thing.
