I have many years of experience using and administrating several different operating systems in the roles of server and workstation. I have administered several versions of UNIX and derivatives including Solaris (from SunOS 4.1.2 to Solaris 2.9), AIX (to version 4.3.2), FreeBSD (to version 4.8), Linux (to kernel level 2.4) and Digital Unix (to version 5.0a). I've also used and managed Novell Netware servers and desktop systems running many versions of Windows, OS/2 and MacOS
I am fluent with several languages and knowledgeable about algorithms in general. I have experience with Perl, Ruby, shell scripting, Java, TCL, Expect, Python, sed, awk, C and C++
I have setup and administered several network services for departmental and organizational use. Among the packages I've setup and administered are Oracle, BIND, SunONE Message Server, qmail, majordomo, wu-ftpd, proftpd, Apache, BEA Weblogic, Netscape Enterprise Server, SunOne Directory Server, Vitria BusinessWare, Veritas Foundation Suite, Veritas Netbackup, Veritas Cluster Server, Integratus UHA, Squid proxy server and ssh. I am also familiar with using several desktop software packages including Open Office, Microsoft Office, Dreamweaver, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Visio.
In addition to the specific technical skills listed above, I have a thorough knowledge of LAN and WAN designs and concepts especially as it relates to TCP/IP. I have a large amount of experience designing and implementing High Availability systems and services. I can also lecture to and write documentation for audiences with widely varying backgrounds on a variety of technical topics and have provided tech editing for several books and manuals.
