Welcome to my website about Pakistan! Before you take a look around, there are a few things you should know: First of all, I'm not Pakistani. I'm American. "Born and raised". But as my homepage states, my father is from Pakistan (and India too, sort of.) Mom is from Finland. So therein lies my interest in Pakistan, and the existence of this website. Second, this site also originally began in 1994 (back in the infancy of the web) as a simple page just explaining where Pakistan was on the map, with about five or six links to anything even remotely related to Pakistan on the web at the time. It was also one of the first two or three websites about Pakistan on the web, and as the web grew, so did this page. Obviously the web has grown tremendously since my first Pakistan page, and eventually it became rather pointless to continue it as simply a growing hotlist of links to things Pakistani on the web. So the focus has been changing over time, and now I have several pages here for you to enjoy. It's (hopefully) not your typical fare, as I've tried to include a bit more info about and for women than you normally find. (And thankfully it's not all simply "women in Islam" and fashion pictures either.) I've also tried to include some resources for the Pakistani-American who is looking for mail-order companies or organizations, or even just a sense that there is a Pakistani-American presence out there on the web. Lastly I've also tried to include those kinds of things that are sorely missing from a lot of the spit-and-polish websites out there. Soul. Sure, you've seen the umpteenth millionth website with some history of Pakistan, a GIF of the flag and a dozen links to Muslim organizations. But did you know that some people think that there's a bridge in Karachi haunted by the ghost of a young woman? This site is still growing, so I beg your indulgence as URLs change and information gets moved around for the next few weeks. Some of the soul of this site still has to be added and some may yet be hard to find. In the meantime, if you think you have a lovely bit of soulful information about Pakistan to share - an ode to the mountains, a tale your dadijan used to delight you with as a child, or instructions on how to weave a small rug - let me know and I'll include a link to it.
