Easter Bunny Visitor

Back in March, my freind Valerie was out in the woods with her horses and the "ranch" owner's dog, Nacho. She noticed that Nacho had picked up something near a tree and was shaking it around. Since it was making screaming noises, it was obvious it wasn't just some stray inanimate material. A loud, "Nacho! Put that down!" saved a teeny baby rabbit's life. Unfortunately, the burrow was already destroyed and with a dog's scent all over it the mother rabbit was very unlikely to take the baby back. More than likely she'd kill it instead.

So Val brought it home, and we took care of it for four days before we took it to a wildlife rehab center. Actually, we had no idea that the bunny would even survive the night. It'd just been through a really traumatic experience, and had some scratches and was covered with bugs, etc. But he was a tough little one!

Baby bunny home

We kept the bunny in an insulated lunch box. :-) The white fluffy stuff is the same stuff you use inside pillows and quilts. He'd bury down all the way to the bottom to sleep, lost in the fluffy stuff.

Just a handful

He was so small, he'd fit inside a cupped hand. I swear he was only about two or three tablespoons big.

Curious little guy

For something only about eight or nine days old, (his eyes weren't even open yet!) he certainly had some energy when he wanted to be curious. Those hind legs can really get him moving!

But mostly sleepy

But his energy was brief, like any baby. One moment he'd be crawling out of your hand, and the next he'd be asleep. He opened his eyes the third day we had him.

A real cutie

We had the bunny for about three days. Then he got a new home at a wildlife rehabilition center. I'm hoping that they were able to free him back into the wild.
