Kayatal and Gjanarrtal

Gjarrda (originally spelled Jarrda or Jarda) actually comprises two distinct languages, Kayatal and Gjanarrtal. Kayatal, the original form of the language, is designed as a personal language. It retains the original syntax and words related to Earth culture, technology, calendar, and natural history. Gjanarrtal, and a reconstructed earlier form Kianarthal, are fictional languages spoken by alien raccoon-people and others who live on their home world. When a form of Gjarrda was given to the raccoon-people, a number of words originally belonging to Gjarrda were borrowed by Tirehlat, a newer personal language. Now that Kayatal and Gjanarrtal are evolving in separate directions, Kayatal has borrowed back those words along with a number of new words originally created for Tirelat. It is likely that Kayatal and Tirehlat will continue to borrow words and ideas from each other in the future. Except where noted, the form of the language described in these web pages is Kayatal. Gjanarrtal differs mainly in vocabulary thus far, although I expect to make changes to the morphology and syntax to reduce the similarities with Jaradh.
