Since 1986 I have been caving in and around the area of Austin, Texas, (with occasional excursions elsewhere). I have been compiling caving information for some time, and these pages present some of that information. I have also done some cave photography, and present some images here. Information and links is presented in several sections, which I list below. Getting Underground. This is information on how to contact other cavers and how to safely explore caves. It includes equipment lists and conservation ideas. Cave Pictures. This is my collection of caving images. All were taken by me between 1992 and 2005. There are separate sections on the Caverns of Sonora, Gruta del Palmito, Austin Caves, and Other Caves. Colors in Caves. This is a synopsis of information I have collected on the origins of color in cave formations. The usual culprit is humic acid, the same thing that makes dirt brown, but there are sometimes other colors. Airmen's Cave. Airmen's Cave in Austin is the first place I did any "real caving" and I liked it (which apparently is rare). This page gives information on the cave and its history. Links to Other Caving Information. This is a list of links, generally to speliology resources, with a short description of the contents of each.
