The Castle Garden Tour

Ist Day- Arrival in Tours- the capital of the Loire Valley. Tours has many faces: it is a very old city with historical sites, a university town with a lively cultural life, and a gourmet's delight. You will stay overnight and have dinner at hotel "Alliance" or similar. This hotel is centrally located within a classically French garden. Pick-up bike, information and kit.

2nd day- En route to your next hotel in Langeais you will visit the castle and the suspended gardens of "Villandry", a marvel of flowers and trees. Overnight at the hotel "La Duchesse Anne" also located in a refreshing garden. For dinner the restaurant serves regional specialties in a traditional and creative style.

3rd day- Your next stop is "Azay le Rideau". This XVlth century castle is situated on an island in the Indre river. The approach to the castle is a dramatic avenue bordered by chestnut trees. Further on the scenery includes the magnificent castles of the fabulous French kings. Dinner and overnight at the hotel "Biencourt" or similar. Hotel "Biencourt' is a directory-style house (19th century) surrounded by a flowered patio.

4th day- Back to Tours through the heart of the "Touraine", the garden of France. Dinner and overnight at the hotel "Alliance" or similar where you will finish your tour and drop- off bike.

5th day- End of tour.

The Chateau Circuit Tour

1st day- Arrive in Blois, a beautiful small town the Loire valley. Famous for its enormous castle, a favorite residence of the French kings. Its renaissance style is a jewel of its kind. Pick-up bike, information and kit. Dinner and overnight at hotel "Climat de France" where the restaurant offers an excellent buffet.

2nd day- Departure from Blois on the way to Rilly sur Loire, a picturesque village which is on the way to some of the most magnificent chateaux of the Loire, including the chateau de Chaumont. This is vineyard country, and you may want to visit one of the famous wine makers of the region. You will reach the "Auberge d Voyageurs" which is a tiny inn with a gourmet restaurant. Dinner and overnight.

3rd day- Today you will reach the elegant chateau de Chenonceau, the chosen residence of Catherine de Medicis. This castle is said to be the most visited of all the castles in the Loire valley due to its superb architecture. The mansion is magnificently situated in the middle of the Cher river. Overnight at "Hotel du Poy", situated in a rustic setting with a fireplace dating from 1523. The restaurant is run by Mr. Goupil, a terrific chef.

4th day - Back to Blois through the magnificent countryside of the Loire valley. Enjoy your last night at the hotel "Climat de France". Naturally, when you come back you will be treated like an old friend. Drop-off bike, dinner and overnight.

5th day - End of tour.

The Chambord/Countryside Tour

Ist day- Arrive in Blois to pick-up bike, information and kit. Blois is a good place to start your tour of chateaux visits. Blois has kept its quiet country atmosphere with its narrow streets and stone stair cases. There are a lot of "pedestrian only" areas and beautiful sites to visit. Dinner and overnight at hotel "Climat de France".

2nd day- Start pedaling toward Mont pres Chambord, where the imposing chateau de Chambord has 440 rooms and a fireplace for every day of the year. It became the favorite place of Louis XIV where the premieres for several of Moliere's plays were presented. Dinner and overnight at hotel "Le Sa Florent", located in Mont pres Chambord.The hotel is a haven of relaxation between woodlands and forests.

3rd day- You are now pedaling toward the castle of Cheverny, a very beautiful and dignified mansion. The same family has owned it for 500 years. Beauregard, another castle close by also has an incredible collection of portrait paintings of many important figures in European history. Dinner and overnight at "Hotel de France" in Contres.

4th day- From Contres return to Blois, passing by elegant manor houses and country estates, acres and acres of vineyards and neat country gardens. Dinner an overnight at hotel "Climat de France" Drop-off bike.

5th day- End of tour.

Provence

Ist day (Rognonas)- Arrival at your 2-star Logis de France hotel to pick-up bike, information and kit. Traditional Provencal evening meal and overnight at hotel.

2nd day (Rognonas/Tarascon)- After breakfast departure for Tarascon via typical Montagnette villages including Boulbon and its 10th century fortress. Evening meal and overnight in a Logis de France hotel.

3rd day (Tarascon/Arles)- From Tarascon, the route winds past farmhouses and market gardens to Maillane. Continue on to Arles via the picturesque Montmajour Abbey. Check in to your Logis de France hotel. Evening meal in a nearby restaurant.

4th day (Arles/Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer)- The landscape changes dramatically as soon as you enter the Camargue. Cross the nature reserve, famous for its pink flamingos, black bulls and white horses which roam free. Evening meal and overnight in a 2-star hotel in Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.

5th day (Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer/Le Sambuc)- This route takes you along the sea wall and across the marshes to the heart of the Camargue. Ideal for observing wildlife. Dinner and overnight in a Logis de France hotel.

6th day (Le Sambuc/Saint-Remy-de-Provence)- From Sambuc you set off towards Arles and then take a little road to Maussane-les Alpilles, passing by the Roman flour mill at Barbegal. Then on to Les Baux which is really worth a visit. Continue on through the Alpilles pass and down to Saint-Remy where Van Gogh lived. Evening meal and overnight in a Logis de France hotel.

7th day (Saint-Remy-de-Provence/Rognonas)- After breakfast, return to Rognonas. End of tour.
