WritingRefuge Oh, man, this feels good! So, the action moves ever onward. I've got them (Stev, Mellie, 'Elda, Zim, Suni and Telsen) kicking off their plan to break the prisoners out of the high security prison on Shark's Tooth. The Tooth is run by the Sorcerer's Guild. Once sent there, that's it. Your term is however long you're there before they need your cell. See, they don't worry about overcrowding... if the prison is full and another prisoner sets foot on the island, there are spells in place that will 'retire' the prisoner who's been there the longest. It's a rather chickenshit way of dealing with capital punishment. The good news is that during better times, sentencing to the Tooth is done with great care. It's very common for prisoners to die of old age there. These are not good times. Arrest orders are being issued by the barrel and the Tooth is filling up. Unfortunately, Mellie's teacher, Ranlin was one of the first arrested when the Sorcerer's Guild started cleaning house. He's also the one they need to defeat the Mage-General. So, Mellie's altered Stev's memory and implanted the necessary trigger. In the weeks since he bugged out to avoid being arrested by the Mage-General's men, he hasn't been plotting to try and stop the forthcoming coup. On, no. He'd never be able to do that. No, instead, he's been on a helluva bender. After all, everyone knows men aren't particularly well-suited to be warriors. Too often they crack and either start killing anything that moves or go on self-destructive binges. He's just one more beardless sword-swinger who couldn't handle the strain. Tsk, tsk. What can I say? Role reversal is fun. So, I've got him lying in a dank alley realizing he's sober and hating the thought. About the time he decided that what he needed was another drink, I realized I needed to shift to another character's POV. I'm just not quite sure whose. I think I'll leave him in the alley with his misery and sleep on it. Today's Words: 1,269 Total Words: 13,860 |
