# This is the HOSTS file I use on my Windows computer at home.
# By intercepting IP address lookup actions from Mozilla Firefox
# and other applications, I can prevent advertising from appearing
# in pop-up windows and in normal web browsing. It's also good for
# preventing some spyware and malware applications from propogating,
# although you should always use real scanning tools to be
# completely safe.
#
# Even if you're not familiar with TCP/IP, you might already have
# noticed that devices on the Internet are identified by a series
# of four numerals separated by periods. Although the math is
# actually a little more complicated, it's enough to know that
# there could be over four billion unique addresses based on this
# system. When your computer needs to get to a website or some other
# resource on the Internet, it ask a Domain Name System server (or
# DNS server) what number goes with what name. In the case of any
# Windows computer, it will look in the HOSTS file before it asks
# a DNS server. By making use of this system, we can fool the
# computer into thinking that addresses leading to advertising or
# unwanted applications aren't available on the Internet by pointing
# these names to the computer asking for the information.
#
# The address 127.0.0.1 is the address that a computer uses to
# refer to itself, and that's reflected in the first entry for the
# name 'localhost.' You should never remove that line. However, any
# other line below can be pointed to any other address as you see
# fit, with no restrictions. You may notice below that many
# popular advertising services are intercepted on my machine,
# including kliptracker, casalemedia, and overture. By misusing the
# hosts file this way, I never see sales pitches from big media
# companies, animated monkey targets, wireless web cameras or
# dating services. This makes web browsing a much more relaxed
# affair for me.
#
# Feel free to use this file if you like. Keep in mind that you might
# actually want to browse to some of the sites I block eBay and
# Macromedia, since I strongly object to their business practices. I
# also have certain portions of yahoo and some of the popular
# counter sites. You should remove lines and add lines depending on
# your own needs. If you see an advertisement and would like to
# add it, you can generally right-click on a picture or a web site
# and select the 'properties' menu item to see what IP address name
# it's using. If adding that entry to the hosts file keeps you from
# browsing some place, simply remove it. For this reason, it's a good
# idea to make changes to this file one line at a time.

# To use this file, highlight all the text and paste it into Notepad
# or your favorite editor. Save it to the appropriate directory in
# your Windows systems folder, which is probably one of these:

# C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
# C:\WinNT\System32\drivers\etc

# Or some variant of that. Make sure the file name is "hosts" with
