Welcome to Karsten's Favorite Anime Fanfics!
"If you only read n fanfics this year, read these."
(Well, they're my favorites, anyway...)
You are the
visitor here since the last time the counter got reset.
Do not e-mail me stories without asking first!
Any story sent to me without first asking will be ignored! This
is NOT an archive site!
Sorry, but I'm getting tired of people sending me mail saying
"Here, put this on your page" and attaching a 200k story. If
you want your story read, please, post it to
RAAC. Don't be afraid to ask;
just don't email me a story without my OK.

Notes (Read these!):
- Check back here often; I keep a close eye out for new
or updated episodes for the fics I have archived here. (Unfortunately, I have fallen a
bit behind, as I now have
a job.)
- All the fics here are pkzipped to save space. If you got this far and still don't
have an unzip program, PKWARE has versions for
DOS, Windows and OS/2; Also, you can get Winzip
(which is what I use) or NetZIP (which integrates
itself into your browser). I've been told that Mac users can use Stuffit Expander, which
can be found at www.shareware.com. If you have
some other system, please give me
a link to an unzipper program so I can put it here.
- They are roughly grouped by the anime they're based on, but otherwise are in no particular order.
- If you can write a better description for one of these than I did,
send it to me and I
may put it up.
- Things I don't have are listed in italics (although I think Lynx shows
them underlined, or maybe blue, depending on your system).
- The first size listed is for the zip files, the second is how much space the
file(s) take(s) up unzipped.
- I have the fanfics numbered for a reason; read them in order or risk confusion! (Of
course, AOL's browser, even 3.0, doesn't number them all correctly. Run one of the
browsers listed at the bottom of this page instead.)
- Read the Read Me files!
- Get Reflow 5 so these will look nice in any word processor.
- If you have any parts of the stories here that I don't,
ask me if I need them
before sending them to me, so I don't end up with 30 copies of them in
my mailbox.
- If you see a fic based on a series you haven't seen, or if
you want to get something else to read, you can probably order it from
, as they seem
to have everything I could think of looking for, and at prettu good prices.

- Just a Dream? by Lew Burden
(lburden@pressenter.com)
Takes place in an alternate Urusei Yatsura universe. This is
a truly excellent fic; it's better than many books I've read. I
highly recommend reading this. Here is an excellent description
of the premise, taken from the beginning of Book 1:
For over two hundred episodes, six movies, and many OVA's we
watched the adventures of the Earth boy Ataru Moroboshi and the
alien girl Lum who moved in with him. Their adventures together
broke the rules of reality with a vengeance, and forced the viewer
to accept the outlandish as commonplace. What if . . . What if
all that was just a series of dreams shared by these two people of
very different worlds?
- Just a Dream? (241k/660k)
Because of this dream world that Ataru seems to return to whenever he sleeps, and
the Oni who inhabits it, he is becoming isolated from his friends, much to his
dismay. Meanwhile, on an invasion fleet approaching Earth, the dreams of
princess Redet Lum are causing some concern among the families. (Description
under construction.)
- Still Dreaming
To describe this part would give away too much of the previous story, and, if you've
read it, I won't need to talk you into reading this one anyway. If you want to
download all the chapters so far in one go, you can get them at Sakurambo's
Urusei Yatsura Fanfiction
site.

- Stories
by John Biles
(ranma@falcon.cc.ukans.edu
or bailesu@komodo.hacks.arizona.edu)
John Biles has written a lot of great stuff, including "Putting Your heart in the Right
Place"/"Furinkan Summer", "Sailor Moon: Symphony of the Planets", "Sailor Moon Z",
"Dance of Shiva", and too much other stuff to list here. Almost all of it
is really good, too.
-
Sailor
Moon Expanded (including "Dark Kingdom Renegades") by
Andy Combs (android@texas.net),
Mark Latus (Mark.Latus@MSVU.Ca),
Frank Barr (fdb@jhk.com)
and several others.
I originally got hooked on this with Mark Latus' "Dark Kingdom Renegades"
stories. He and Andy Combs, who wrote "Rabbit Test", decided to mesh
their stories, and the result is quite impressve, not only because it's a good
story but because it still manages to mesh almost perfectly with the "real"
Sailor Moon universe. Since then, a number of other authors have jumped in,
expanding the story further.
Anyway, "DKR" follows a small group of "good" Youma who managed to escape
the Dark Kingdom just before its destruction.
- Urusei Yatsura - The Senior Year
(Previously known as Classic Urusei Yatsura) and sequels,
by Mike Smith
and
Fred Herriot (gorgo@kwangju.net)
To quote the readme:
UY-TSY is a series which begins a month after the end of the "classic" series normally seen
as the fifth movie, "The Final Chapter." Lasting over a year-and-a-half in character time,
UY-TSY is our rendition of what might have happened to Lum, Ataru and their friends and
companions in the wake of the Second Tag Race.
I maintained a page on this for a while, and the only reason I don't anymore is lack of free
time; it's still a great story (IMO, some others disagree; this is one of those fics people
either think is awesome or trash).
- Sailor
Moon V - The Dark Adventures by Troy A. Stanton
(SailorMoonV@hotmail.com)
Yes, the "V" stands for "Vampire". Another story where not all
the residents of the Negaverse are evil. Plot quality goes down a bit
after the first story, but picks up again by the end of part 3, and
continues to improve from there; the last scene in episode 4 is particularly
good. All parts take place in the Sailor Moon universe (big suprise
there). Warning: From part 2 ("By The New Moon's Light")
on, this series contains some scenes that some readers may find offensive
(i.e. it has sex in it). Part 3 in particular pushed the limits of
what I tolerate in what I read, but after that it focuses on the
plot again and gets much better. Anyway, you have been warned!
- Stories
by Chris Davies
(cdavies@gpu.srv.ualberta.ca)
This guy writes good stuff, even if it does tend to be rather dark. The story that convinced
me to put a link to his page here was
"Together Again", but
you'll need to read at least some of his other stories to get some idea what's going on.
TA2937 was the best story I've read in a while, even if the format is unusual (not just
script format, but movie script format; it works well, though), and manages to cross
over almost as many series as Undocumented Features.
- The Bet
by Gregg Sharp
(metroanime@mindspring.com) and others
I missed the beginning of this, but as near as I can tell, it went something like this: "I'll write
the first bits of about a zillion alternate universe stories, then take votes on which should
be continued". My vote: Almost all of them!
- Nabiki - New Horizons
by G.L. Sandborn aka Uncle Fester
(sandborn@microlink.net)
Rather well written, and focuses on Nabiki. I like it. Of course, with Nabiki being my favorite character
in all of anime, I'm biased. This page also features "Son of Japanese Ranma TV From Hell" and
"More Son of Japanese Ranma TV From Hell".
- Hearts of Ice
by Krista Perry
(KPerry@aros.net)
This is a great story.
Shampoo casts a spell using dragon's blood to get rid of Akane, but things don't quite
go as planned. Somebody, please write a better description of this for me. This story really
deserves one.
- Ranma
1/2: The Altered Destinies by Wade Tritschler (tritscwa@mala.bc.ca) and others
Several alternate universe stories, including
"Most
Unlikey of Friends", where Akane and Shampoo are best friends,
"A
Scary Thought", which has Genma taking Kasumi on the training trip instead of Ranma,
"A
Very Scary Thought", which has Genma taking Nabiki on the training trip instead,
"A
Little Motherly Love", where Genma died and Nodoka trained Ranma,
"Switching
Heirs", in which Happosai named Ukyou his heir and she was the one taken on the training trip,
and "Odd
Outcome", which matches up Akane and Shampoo and focuses on how they and the rest of the cast deal with it.
- Onna:
Red Side vs. Yellow Side by
The Eternal Lost Lurker
(EternalLostLurker@worldnet.att.net)
Anyone remember the Ranma fanfic "Her" from a while back? This is (sort of) a rewrite of it.
Actually, it's a pair of rewrites, as "Red Side" and "Yellow Side" have absolutely nothing to do with
each other, save the basic premise (I could be wrong for "Yellow Side", as what I read hasn't
got that far, but it holds for "Her" and "Red Side"): The soul of the girl who drowned in the
nannichuan was not passed on; she's stuck in Ranma's head. Fairly well done, and "Red Side" is a
crossover.
- Careful
Destinty by Shadow Stalker
(sysop@newberry.edu),
based on Be
Careful What You Wish For (9k/24k, GZipped)
by Richard Beaubien
(beaubienrd@mala.bc.ca)
Ranma gets a magic item that grants two wishes, and he uses one to wish he'd never been
cursed. He wakes up to find himself living not with the Tendos but with his parents and
his younger sister, Ranko. Akane (who doesn't know him) is engaged to Kuno, and Ranma quickly
(and painfully) discovers that in this universe, though he isn't cursed, he's also never
trained in martial arts.
- The (sur)Real World
by Rod M.
(rpm39788@bayou.uh.edu)
Take seven "ordinary" people (Ranma Saotome, Ataru Moroboshi, Kyosuke Kasuga, Mamoru Chiba,
Atsuko "Nuku-Nuku" Natsume, Washu and Urd), put them in an apartment complex together,
and make it a TV show. Very, very funny.
- Ranma 2096 by
Christopher Willmore
(4cw6@qlink.queensu.ca) and others
Following Ranma's murder in 1996, he is ressurected 100 years later
and bonded to the American Kim Thompson by a modified
Jusenkyo curse. Funny in some parts, dark
in others (mostly dark, when you factor in all the side stories),
overall a very good read. Right now there are more side stories than main
stories; my favorite is "Echoes" by
Rui Madeira
(rmadeira@interlog.com)
-
"Thy
Inward Love" and other stories by Richard Lawson
(sterman@uswest.net)
Richard Lawson writes really good stuff.
Most are set in the Ranma 1/2 universe (or a variant), including his wonderful story,
"Thy Inward Love" (after you've read it, you also
may want to check out
Sebastian Weinberg's MST3K-style C&C of it), but he's also written some set to
Nuku Nuku. All are excellent and worth reading.
- Twisted
Path by Twister (Darren Steffler)
(twister@escape.ca) (Note new page and email)
Happosai tries to summon a demon to annoy Ranma, but Ranma interrupts the spell, and it
goes wild across the multiverse. One part finds an arch demon, the other, simply searching for
something somehow linked to the Ranma universe, finds a college student who happens to
be reading the manga at the that particular moment. Both wind up being summoned.
So what if the author writes himself in as a super-powerful charachter? It's
still a good read (It gets much better after part 1). Also note that despite the lack of link,
TP4 is available on the RAAC archive
here.
- Undocumented Features
and related stories by
Megazone
(megazone@megazone.org),
Gryphon
(gryphon@world.std.com),
ReRob
(remande@world.std.com)
and many others.
A true classic. You need to read this. Starts out with Ben stubmling
across an HoloDECstation 31000 and accidentally creating Kei and Yuri (AKA the
Dirty Pair). Things proceed from there and manage to bring in elements of, in
no particular order, BGC, Robotech, Star Trek, Predator,
Star Wars, Megazone 23, Buckaroo Banzai, Sandman, Tron, Iczer-1, Wing Commander,
Ninja High School, and probably a godzillion other things
I don't remember off the top of my head, and that's not including the side
stories! Note: part one has a significantly higher sillyness factor than the
rest of the series. Be sure to check out
Eyrie's other stuff, too; most of it is
very good.

Yeah, the "normal" next buton had onna-Ranma with red hair, but I liked
it better black, so I pasted in the modified version I did for the
