About the List

The DM list is for discussion of and fanfic about all possible aspects of the relationship between Duncan MacLeod and Methos. This frequently includes adult material, including slash, so if you are uncomfortable with this you should not join the list. Likewise, you must also be willing to accept views of those on the list who do not see a slash relationship. Tolerance is the watchword.

You must be at least eighteen years of age, or the age of majority in your country, to join.

Rules and Guidelines

Please keep ON TOPIC as much as possible. Occasional off topic posts are welcome, but please mark them OT: in the subject line so people who don't want to read off topic posts can delete them. Please note the word "occasional" - if most of your posts are off topic you should probably reconsider sending them. Also, please check to see if virus alerts, etc. are real before passing them on.

NO FLAMES. While lively discussion and sharing of opinions is encouraged, flames (attacking someone personally on list) will not be tolerated under any circumstances. If you are mad about something someone says, try waiting a while before replying or write your scathing reply and then delete it before sending.

ABSOLUTELY NO FORWARDING of posts on or off list without the original writer's permission. The only exception would be posts originating in a public forum such as a newsgroup, or informational posts obviously meant for distribution. Other mailing lists are not considered public. If in doubt, please ask. Please remove all extraneous headers from the message. Always check with the sender before forwarding list posts elsewhere.

QUOTING part of a message you are replying to is useful, but please delete anything not relevant. It makes your message much easier to read, especially for people on digest.

NO ATTACHMENTS - If you have a picture or sound you wish to share, Yahoo! Groups has a shared files area you can upload it to. After you have signed in and you are a member of the list, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Duncan_Methos/files/ and follow the instructions.

Managing Your Subscription

Subscribing to the list

Step One: Become a Yahoo! Member - Skip to Step 2 if you're already a member of Yahoo!
To subscribe to the Duncan_Methos Mailing list, you need to already be a member of Yahoo!. It's free and very easy to join, just follow the instructions. Once you've become a member of Yahoo!, then you can join any Yahoo! group (of which the Duncan_Methos list is just one).

If you experience difficulties, make sure that your web browser has cookies enabled. Also check the Yahoo! Groups Help page.

SPECIAL NOTE TO eGroups MEMBERS!! As you already probably know, eGroups has merged with Yahoo!. If you haven't already done so, you'll want to convert your eGroups account over to Yahoo! If you have an existing Yahoo! ID, it will simply associate your eGroup account with your Yahoo ID. If you don't have a Yahoo! account, then you'll be prompted to register with Yahoo!

Step Two: Subscribe to the Duncan_Methos List

Click to subscribe to Duncan_Methos

If you have limited web access, you can still join the Duncan_Methos mailing list by sending a blank message (no content) to Duncan_Methos-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Before you start to receive or send email to the list, you will be requested to send an age statement. Instructions on how to do this will be sent to you through email.

If you experience difficulties, make sure that your web browser has cookies enabled. Also check the Yahoo! Groups Help page.

Sending Email to the Duncan_Methos List

This can be done a couple of different ways. You can either use the web form provided by Yahoo! Groups, or use your favorite email program and send email to Duncan_Methos@yahoogroups.com

Note: The list is set up so that all replies go to the list. If you want to send a private reply, remember to edit the "Reply To" field.

Unsubscribing, Digests and Other List Options

The easiest way to manage your subscription is to use Yahoo! Groups' web interface. Once you've successfully logged in at the Yahoo! Groups web site, click on "My Groups" in the upper left hand corner. This will list all Yahoo! Groups mailing lists of which you are currently a member. At the top is a link called Edit Delivery Options.

There are currently four options available:

Individual EmailsThis just means that each email message sent to the list will be received by you as an individual email
Daily DigestList messages are periodically compiled together into one large email mesage and then sent to you.
No Mail/Web OnlyYou will not receive any messages via email, but you will still have access to the list messages via the web. This option does not prevent you from sending messages to the list. This option is particularly useful when you need to go on vacation and you don't want you mailbox to overflow.
UnsubscribePretty self-explanatory; you no longer wish to be a member of the list.
Once you've set your options, don't forget to click on "Save Changes".

Or, if you'd rather not use the web interface, you can also just send email to Duncan_Methos-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com

Archiving Stories

Currently there is no central archive for stories posted to the DM list. The reason is because most members already have their own web pages and it was felt that it would be redundant.

Stories might also be found in the Files section of the list or more likely, they will have been posted to the list and can be found through the Messages section. Also check the links page for pointers to author's sites.

If you don't have your own web space, but would like to publish your fiction on the web, there are at least two excellent Highlander archive sites. The Unthinkable Alternative Archive is devoted to Duncan-Methos relationship stories (mostly slash). The other is the Seventh Dimension Highlander Fanfic Archive, probably the most inclusive of all Highlander archives. They accept every kind of Highlander fan fiction, including general, adult, slash, crossover, etc.
