Beth-Chilmad

**********

In the Marches, close to Blandine's Tower, is a place, or at least a concept. It is most commonly called, in the Angelic tongue, Beth-Chilmad, the House of Learning. It is a place where Human dreamscapes are kept carefully separate, for it is the place formed of the waking dreams of its owners-- Alpheus, Kyriotate Master of Dreams, and a woman who in life was known as Miriam Jenson, an unsung hero of dreams. Other angels, celestial and the occasional ethereal spirit, and dead souls help upon occasion as well. The keepers of Beth-Chilmad maintain it as a place that is very Earthlike and real. Natural laws do not get broken here as they do in other areas of Dream, but things can still be True here that are not True elsewhere. This simulation is maintained to such a high degree of reality because it is the place where angels are trained before being assigned to Earth.

Not all newly-assigned angels can be trained here, of course, but many Archangels choose a select few whom they believe will benefit from the training. These angels report there and are pulled into the reality that is Beth-Chilmad, learning of the Earth as they never could secondhand.

The keepers of the House of Learning appear in many guises, so the trainees never truly know what might be part of training and what might be random accident. Those who have gone through training there don't discuss it, lest its impact be lessened for an angel who has been forewarned.
