Cynarra Lambard

Still being worked on

HISTORY:

Cynarra Lambard was born in 1973 to an upper-middle class family, the youngest of three children. Her mother and father divorced when she was 5.

She was not particularly shy or unattractive, but she was quiet, and people tended to ignore her. As she got older, she found social interraction, including school and family became more and more fatiguing. She suffered from frequent headaches after school and chose to avoid social functions as much as possible.

Cynarra was becoming invisible and inaudible-- people failed to notice when she enterred rooms, waiters ignored her, even her family sometimes forgot to set a place for her at the table.

Her mother remarried when Cynarra was thirteen. Cynarra's step-father was a pill popper. Cynarra discovered his stash. Trying to get some attention, she took some. For some odd reason, though they failed to have the chosen effect on her system, they did somehow anchor her in people's consciousness-- the stronger the drug, the greater the effect. Cynarra was fifteen when her parents discovered the packages of syringes in her room. She was kicked out by an enraged step-father. That night, she returned and gathered up a few possessions, stole a great deal of her step-father's stash and fled to L.A.

She lived for a time out of the trash at fast food places, while looking for work. Jobs for homeless 15-year-olds are few and far between, however, and her drugs began running low. Desperate, she tried to turn to prostitution. Her style needed some improvement, however, and she backed out at the last minute from the one customer she had attracted. It was on her second day that she stumbled on a fellow invisible, by propositioning him. He took her back to his run-down apartment without revealing his secret, or his knowledge of hers. She once again had second thoughts at the last minute, but he overpowered her. He didn't want sex, though. He tied her up and held her captive. Two weeks passed while she went through withdrawal as he nursed her, fed her and observed her.

After she had recovered, he dragged her outside and watched for any reaction by the crowd on the sidewalk to her presence. There was none-- she was as invisible as he was. He took her back home and began introducing various drugs to her system and testing their efficacy on the crowded sidewalks-- always walking with a knife to her ribs. It was during this period that Cynarra first had LSD. She began to see auras around people under its effect. Even after it wore off, she still saw the auras and began, slowly to recognise the meanings of the various colors and patterns she saw.

It was also during this period that her captor, Davy, told her about the glamour and introduced her to two other glamourous people he knew, Merle and Julio-- both as deeply invisible as he was. They stole what they needed and could interract only with each other. Cynarra was their key to the rest of the human race.

She was beaten and raped into submission, drugged, and used as a bridge to the rest of the race. She was also prostituted out-- always guarded by a companion invisible to her customers. She also began to discover other abilities, not apparently associated with the glamour, possibly brought on by her drug experimentations or the stresses of her life.

Slowly over the next year she gained the trust of her captors. The three men began to compete for her attentions. Davy began experiments with drugs to see if they would effect him as they did Cynarra. Under their effect, he wounded Julio. Julio lingered for two days, unable to seek treatment at a hospital because of his glamour, before dying.

Merle disappeared the following evening. Davy clung to Cynarra as his only remaining social contact. Unable to abandon him, even given his treatment of her, she continued to prostitute and buy drugs. She would not steal and so had to use her money from prostitution to support herself and her habit.

Perhaps in reaction to the horror of Julio's death, Cynarra began to develop some healing ability.

Two years passed. Davy began suffering night sweats, weight loss and other disturbing symptoms. He lasted a year under Cynarra's weak psionic treatments.

Cynarra had herself tested for HIV and came up positive. She has lived a year knowing that her days are numbered, continuing to prostitute herself out to support her habit, trying desperately to not disappear into the shadows as Julio, Merle and Davy did, trying to be known, to be remembered. She has yet to develop any symptoms.

Two weeks ago, she was approached by a customer. As he got within range of her ability to see auras, she saw a dark, horrific thing curled up in the midst of his aura. She reached out and touched a mind full of twisted images of pain and blood and death. She fled in terror.

She debated what to do with her knowledge. She could hardly go to the police with such a story. Then she came across the body of a prostitute she had known-- killed in the same manner as she had seen in the mind of the thing. The scene "smelled" of him. The victim was fourteen. Cynarra decided to track the thing herself. She had her glamour and her other abilities, and her days were numbered anyway.

Thus did Cynarra Lambard, prostitute, find herself stalking the stalker, stalking the Ripper.

In the process, she discovered a group of people who were frequently at the crime sites shortly afterward. They were not police, and Cynarra became suspicious of them. She followed them to their home where she observed their comings and goings for parts of several days. They apparently had some sort of video cameras aimed at the street outside their building, as they eventually noticed her presence there (her psionic ability does not affect recording devices). After a great deal of bumbling, they finally met and talked to her. She has assisted them somewhat in their investigation, but has not stopped her own. They are the Los Angeles Bureau 13 team.
