Focus
on Special Areas:
Gullett's special area teachers go
beyond the call of duty to bring enrichment
opportunities to our children in Art, Music, and
Physical Education. This month we focus on...
Music
at Gullett March brought Western Day to
Gullett, including a wonderful square dance
performance by kindergarten and first graders. Says
music specialist Ms. Jeffrey, "The square dance
show is so impressive. The kids love it and talk
about it even in fourth and fifth grade."
Square dancing teaches coordination, right and
left, spatial skills, cooperation, and stamina. The
square dance program began in Ms. Jeffrey's first
year at Gullett in 1981, when the then PE teacher
taught Ms. Jeffrey to square dance and talked her
into doing a joint program combining PE and music.
Since then, the program has become a music
department tradition and one that the kids look
forward to eagerly.
Check out more photos from the Western Day
program on Mrs. Vanzura's class page,
created by parent Anne Jarriel. We hope to add
video clips from the program shortly, so check
back.
